What is Synchro?

Once only used in aquacades and diving shows, synchronized diving (or synchro diving) has become one of the most popular diving events in the world. Introduced internationally at the 1995 FINA World Cup, synchro diving finally became a full-medal Olympic sport, debuting at the 2000 Games with four events.

Description
Two divers of the same gender perform the same or complementary dives from the same level board. On the platform, divers takeoff from opposite sides of the platform. On the springboard, divers takeoff from adjacent boards.

Events
There are four synchro diving events: men’s synchro 3-meter, men’s synchro platform, women’s synchro 3-meter and women’s synchro platform.

Scoring
In contrast to the seven judges used for individual competition, nine judges are used in synchro events. Two judges score the execution of Diver A’s performance, two judges scores the execution of Diver B’s performance, and five judges score the synchronization of the pair.
