Every year the City of Kitchener honours the amateur athletes in our cities for their outstanding performance at a Canadian Provincial, National or International Championship. The athlete or team must place first in Canadian provincial or national Championship/games or if they receive gold, silver or bronze in international championship/games sanctioned by a recognized Canadian provincial or national sport governing body.
This year, the K|W Diving Club was honoured for the achievements of our divers at both the Tier II and Tier I level.
At the Tier I level our divers who were nominated received top placing as individuals in their respective age groups and events at last years Provincials.
For the fourth year running, Brett Gillis and C.J. Moore were named provincial Synchro champions. At Senior Nationals, they now hold two Bronze medals.
C.J. Moore was named Provincial Champion for “B” division. He was named to the Junior National Team and as a member of the national team, he competed at the Junior Pan Ams and received Silver on Tower.
The K|W Diving Club has a long standing tradition of producing high level athletes in our Tier II division. We have always had a strong Tier II team, and last year saw that team take it all the way to the top. Our Tier II team, which consisted of 16 divers (a larger team than we have ever sent to provincials), was honoured for their win at last year’s provincials. The Tier II team, garnered 326 points, 133 points more than the second place club, to be named top team and take home the Webb trophy. Individually, within the competition, we had many of our divers win gold or double gold in their division. The list of divers is as follows:

It goes without saying, although I am going to say it, that our divers could not have achieved these great heights without the incredible coaching staff in our club. Our Tier II coaching staff, lead by Roland Lipki, and our Tier I staff, lead by Rob Wells, are to be commended for their incredible commitment and investment of time that went into each and every one of these divers, in order for them to achieve their success.
Congratulations to all our divers. This season is proving to be even more amazing in both divisions, so watch for many more of our divers to achieve outstanding status for next year’s award ceremonies!
