K|W DIVERS IN FOREST CITY – COULD THERE BE ANY MORE GOLD?

medalsThe Kitchener -Waterloo diving club Tier I divers recently attended their second national qualifier of the season, held in London at the Canada Games Aquatic Center. Our team consisted of 7 divers all diving for national qualifying scores.

Our “D” divers are our divers age 11 and under. We have three divers this year in this age category.

Nate Grobe competed in all three events – 1 meter, 3 meter and tower – and took home triple gold with national qualifying scores in each event

Andrew Pinney competed in all three events with silver on 1 meter, silver on 3 meter and 4th on tower. Andy had national scores on both the 1 and 3 meter.

Ali Moussa, the last of the three musketeers, came home with bronze on the 1 and 3 meter and silver on the tower. He also met the national standard in every event.

Our “C” division is divers age 12 and 13, and Mohamed Moussa, new to Level 1, competes at this level. He competed on 1 meter and 3 meter, with bronze place finish on both boards.

Our “B” diver is Brett Gillis, and as predicted, the B division is the one to watch this season. The competition was fierce and Brett was outstanding! He came home with triple gold, far exceeding the national standard in every event.

Our “A” diver is C.J. Moore who has had a long diving career with the Kitchener Waterloo Diving Club. The “A” division is the last division in juniors for divers aged 16 to 18. C.J. is in his first year of A so is at the young end of the scale. He is holding his own in this new age category and came home with gold on the tower and silver on the 3 meter. His scores were national qualifying scores.

Kate Brechun is diving “Open” – open to divers age 18 and over and junior divers who have the required dives. Kate dove amazing, and hit every one of her dives. She was gold on the 1 meter and silver on the 3 meter. Her scores are senior qualifying scores.

Brett and C.J. also compete open. Brett was a strong contender in this group – he took gold on 3 meter, bronze on tower, and 4th on 1 meter – qualifying for senior nationals on both the 3 meter and the tower. C.J. was a triple silver winner- also qualifying for senior nationals on 3 and tower.

All the divers will need to qualify one more time with national scores before they are eligible to attend Nationals.

The next meet will be the JD Invitational in March.
