Nepean Invitational - Great Results!!

By Janice | December 2, 2008

In our first Level I diving meet of the season, K|W diving club came home with stellar results.

Kate Brechun, diving Women’s open this year (any diver, any age), had a fantastic start to the season.  Kate was awarded the bronze medal on both 1 meter and 3 meter boards, along with qualifying for senior nationals on 3 meter.  Kate’s score and placing earned her a spot on the Canada Games Training Camp Team.  She will travel with the team to Victoria in February, 2009.

Andrew Dolson, dove in both Men’s A (age 16 to 18), and in Men’s open. Andrew was out of diving for most of last season, with a wrist injury.  This was his first meet in over eight months, and he dove exceptionally well.  In Men’s A, Andrew placed 5th on both 1 meter and 3 meter boards.  He achieved national qualifying scores on both boards, his first time attaining this goal.  He also placed 8th on both boards in the Men’s open.

Brett Gillis has moved up to a new age group this year, Men’s B (age 14-15).  In his first competition ever at this level, he earned the bronze medal on platform, the bronze on 3 meter and 4th on 1 meter. Brett was well above qualifying scores in all three events for Age Group Nationals.  Brett dove open and placed 6th on platform 6th on 3 meter and 4th on 1 meter.

C.J. Moore also dove in Men’s B (age 14 to 15).  He received silver on the platform, silver on the 3 meter, and gold on the 1 meter.  C.J. qualified for Age Group Nationals on all boards.  In the open category, C.J. was 4th on platform, 7th on 1 meter and received the silver on 3 meter.  C.J. achieved senior qualifying scores on the 3 meter and is eligible for winter seniors.  His scores also earned him a spot on the Canada Games Training Camp Team, and he will travel with Kate to the Sting in February, 2009.

Thank-you goes out to Rob Wells, our national coach.  He is to be commended for the amazing results from his divers.  And thanks to all the divers, for their efforts, and the parents for their continuing support.

K\W DIVING CLUB IS TOP AT THE BRANTFORD INVITATIONAL DIVING MEET

By Janice | November 17, 2008

Alex CoachingThe Kitchener Waterloo Diving Club began its season this weekend with our first meet in Brantford. The club is at an all time high in registered members. We sent a record number of divers to the meet, and were the largest club represented.

The Brantford diving club is a new club, who were hosting their first meet ever. Divers came from Etobicoke, Toronto, Burlington, Scarborough, Niagara, Brantford and our own Kitchener Waterloo. The competition was well run, even though the line ups were long for the boards.

For many of our divers, this was not only the first meet of the season, but their first meet ever, and they competed well, and came home with the “gold” to show for it.

In our introductory level IV, our newest and youngest divers competed on the 1 meter board with these results:

In Age 11 and under – Raine Mahony took Gold and Mayan Reiter took Silver in the girl’s division, and Mohamed Moussa took Gold in the boys.

In the Level III category, we sent our largest contingent of divers. They competed on the l meter board and took home the following:

In Age 11 and under – Jessica Penner took the Silver and Sydney Schumacher came in fourth. Jessica also competed on the 3 meter taking the Gold.

In the boy’s division Nate Grobe took Gold, Bradley Muise took Silver, Jesse Reusser placed sixth, Andrew Pinney came in seventh, Paul Hewson took eighth, Ali Moussa placed ninth, and Jacob Davis came in eleventh place.

In the 12 and 13 year old category, Johnny Lepage took Gold on both boards.

In the 14 and 15 year old category, Matthew Weigel took Gold on the 1 meter, Bradley Norris took Silver and Brawn Mahony finished fourth. Brawn Mahony also competed on the 3 meter and took Gold.

In the 16 and over Category our divers were Emily Lehan taking Silver, Daria Vela placing fourth, and Khoral Hare coming in fifth on 1 meter. Emily also competed on the 3 meter, and took home Silver.

Brady Weis took Gold on both boards.

Thanks to the all our coaches who had a hand in our stellar results, and thank-you to the parents, for their countless hours of dedication to the sport and their divers.

The divers will now come home to begin preparation for their next meet in Scarborough in January.
