2011 Novice National Championships, Waterloo June 18-19th

nnlogo1At the third annual Novice National Championships held here in Waterloo, KWDC entered a very strong team of 18 competitors ranging from E level right through to A. The weekend, and competition season for the Tier IIs, wrapped up with a multitude of successes….15 medals, 10 ribbons, and 3 outstanding divers were added to the club’s roster of achievements this year.

Without a doubt, the event that made this Championship so special was the trip for all divers out to the Tatham pond in Woodstock on Saturday afternoon. With a fully equipped set of platform and springboards, every diver was able to experience the thrill of diving into an outdoor pond complete with lily pads and water grasses! Being able to soar across and splash into the water on the water slide or rope swing was an added bonus. Marnie Tatham, who passed away a year ago, built this pond in order to train local and national divers. Janice gave a moving tribute to Marnie, enlightening us all on the positive impact she made on the diving world. KWDC is very grateful to the Tatham family for welcoming our large group out to their home and pond.

We would like to congratulate all Tier II divers for their hard work and improvement over the past year. Your efforts came through in the scores and personal bests that were achieved not only at Nationals but throughout the year. Special congratulations to Alten, Brayden and Brawn for being named Outstanding Diver of the Meet in their age divisions at Novice Nationals. Such successes could only be achieved with the consistently high level of coaching from Roland and Terri.

We would also like to thank all the parents, family members and Tier I divers who volunteered so much time to this event and made it such a resounding success. And, of course, a hearty thank you to Janice who brought the Novice Nationals to Ontario for the first time and oversaw every detail of its implementation.
