Nepean Ottawa Diving Club Invitational, November 25-27th, 2011
All eleven members of the Tier 1 Team, including newcomers Vicki and Sammy Zieba, were in Ottawa this weekend for the first meet of the 2011/12 season. There was plenty of qualifying scores gained and awards for everyone.
This season began with a few changes for the younger divers.For the first time, C boys Nate and Gabe dove in the Open category with divers much older than themselves. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their optional divesand set a baseline standard. Aniko joined the ranks of the C girlsdivision this year and competed her armstand and 3m twister for the first time. In his first Tier 1 meet, Sammy dove both E and D, winning Gold on 1mE and clearly holding his own with the bigger boys
Vicki joined Raine in Girls D, together claiming either 3rd or 4thplace for KWDC on every board. Raine’s strong performance on platform earned her a personal best while both girls added qualifiers to their records.
Kevin had a silver streak in all three events and scored personal bests each time. Andy’s performance on platform earned him a personal best but his real strength lay in earning a qualifier on 3m even with a failed dive.
CJ and Brett captured the Gold and Silver, respectively, on every board in the Men’s A category. CJ scored a personal best on 3m while Brett achieved personal bests on both 3m and platform in the Men’s Open.
This meet was Emily’s first competition since having surgery this summer and taking time off to heal. Aside from her outstanding comeback, she was an exceptional assistant coach, helping Rob manage and train this large team of divers.
